The client, a young couple with a child, asked us to renovate this apartment in Poble Sec neighborhood, Barcelona. We were asked to work within a tight budget, so we decided to keep a lot of the original features of the apartment like the mosaic floors and the doors.

The apartment has a fabulous and sunny façade with a surrounding balcony. This long façade gives natural light to all the rooms.

The project divides the spaces in two bedrooms, a bathroom and an open-plan living and kitchen. The layout is a response to this long façade, grouping the bedrooms and the entrance on one half and the living area to the other.

The original flooring is a suggestive mix of old “hydraulic tiles” with different colors and designs, and links the different rooms of the apartment, like a huge and continuous rug.

When demolishing the false ceiling, we discover an outstanding structural slab on top of us. A typical Catalan vault ceiling, but in a radial fan-shape. This fantastic ceiling and the original details, has as a result, a 100% Barcelonan home.
