Interior reform project for a flat located on Calle Mallorca in Barcelona in collaboration with the Mexican architecture firm TANAT.

This is the reform of the 1st floor of a typical building in the Barcelona district, with openings to Calle Mallorca and the interior patio, with a very skewed distribution, a good height and very little natural light .

After demolishing the entire existing distribution, the night and day program were separated at both ends of the floor, placing the service and humidity areas in the central part. The existing corridor, with many turns and doors, disappears completely. There is no longer a corridor, but spaces that expand, generating wider spaces, suggesting different functions. On both sides, kitchen-dining room and study-living room, serve respectively as antechambers and preambles of the large living room and gallery, and of the bedrooms.

The hall, previously small and dark, becomes a pleasant arrival space by expanding the passage space that connects the area by day and by night. A wooden paneling camouflages the wet parts (bathroom and laundry room) and a linear cupboard that serves as a storage space. The white paneling integrates the columns of the kitchen in one of its faces and generates a table in the study area. In the arrival area, the niche that integrates the access doors to the wet pieces changes to an Oak texture to give warmth when entering the floor. From here you have incredible visual depth, perceiving natural light on both sides of the floor.

The passage space expands once again generating the dining room on one side and making part of a large island that articulates the entire kitchen. All tall furniture is integrated into the columns of the wet area box. A low bar parallel to the island collects the cooking and the sink, freeing the island and enhancing it as a great space for meeting and living. An opening is made in the load-bearing wall, to be able to surround it and fill all spaces with natural light.

The living room, connected by the two openings to the kitchen, is enlarged by making the Gallery its own, which is understood as a large interior balcony.

On the other side of the floor, another expansion allows to fluff up the space and generate a small living room and study, perfectly arranged in an L against the walls and topped with a large bookcase.

Through this space we access the two double rooms. The main room is organized by means of a fixed piece of sliding doors that hides an interior shoe rack and formalizes a dressing room that can be left open or closed.

The ceilings are exposed in the day areas, and are kept or hidden in the night area to preserve acoustic conditions, since the upper floor has an inverted distribution.

The lighting project stands out for the use of indirect and ambient light in the bedroom, study and gallery. In work areas, cooking or eating, direct light is enhanced. A large led strip linearly accompanies the passage area, rotating in the studio.
