Dwellings on a warehouse

We got the assignment to transform a warehouse into dwellings. The space was a diaphanous store, located on the first floor of an old brick building. The project is developed considering important constrains: a very low interior height and the prohibition of changing the exterior volume.

Our proposal focuses in generating a new long façade by cutting out pieces of the sloped roof. These cuts generate great terraces where we were able to ventilate the different pieces of the apartments. At the same time, this cutting become the guideline of the design, in terms of interior layout or façade composition. Matching these new terraces, we did low the brick wall limiting to the outdoor, to guarantee an optimum ventilation and sun bathing.

The placement of the different interior rooms, whom needed different minimum heights, turns into a broken façade, where the low rooms stand out from the main line.

The global composition is structured by the existing beams, now reinforced, which become ubiquitous   and with a tight relationship between the interior and the exterior spaces.
